Greece: Between Mountains and Mediterranean Light
Greece is a land shaped by contrasts. Rugged mountains rise above quiet valleys, olive groves stretch toward the horizon, and small villages appear between forests, fields and winding roads. Across this varied landscape, the distinctive Mediterranean light continually transforms the scenery, revealing a different character with every change in weather and time of day.
This portfolio presents my photographic journey through Greece, from the landscapes of the Peloponnese to the coastal regions and islands surrounding Athens. The photographs explore both the familiar beauty of the country and the quieter places found beyond its celebrated landmarks. Remote roads, cultivated fields, forested hills and isolated structures become part of a landscape that feels timeless yet constantly changing.
Light plays a central role throughout the collection. Strong sunlight creates bold contrasts and clearly defined forms, while cloudy conditions bring softer tones, texture and a more dramatic atmosphere. At sunrise and sunset, warm colors briefly reshape the land, connecting mountains, sky and human presence within a single scene. These changing conditions make every visit different, even when returning to the same location.
My approach to photographing Greece is based on careful observation and a willingness to explore. Some images begin with a planned destination, while others emerge unexpectedly during the journey—a distant mountain framed by trees, a road disappearing into the hills or a small settlement illuminated for only a few moments.
Together, these photographs offer a personal interpretation of the Greek landscape: diverse, atmospheric and deeply connected to its geography, history and light. They reflect not only the places I encountered, but also the experience of slowing down, looking carefully and discovering the quieter visual stories hidden within the land.
